I'm Feeling the Love . . . Sort of.
It appears as though Congress has passed legislation partially dismantlingThe Wright Amendment. This bill, passed in 1978, was an odious and naked use of political connections by American Airlines against Southwest Airlines by severely restricting flights in and out of Dallas Love Field, the home airport of Southwest Airlines. The bill does seem to take its sweet time in repealing Wright and it does chop the number of gates at the airport from 32 to 20. I'm generally supportive of this deal because Wright will ultimately be thrown on to the ash heap of history and because it was largely an agreement ratified in Congress. The bill has many flaws, but I won't let the perfect stand in the way of the good. Congress was right to pass it and the President would be right to sign it.
